The State Theatre was presented to Modesto on Christmas Day 1934 to an appreciative, rural community drawn to the glamour, excitement and escape only Hollywood movies could provide.  Now with its new facade, sound system, marquee and lobby, The State rivals its more modern counterparts in luxury and modern conveniences. When you step inside it’s the Art Deco-era splendor you quickly realize, there’s no other place in Modesto like it.
