The AZORES BAND of ESCALON

The Catholic Social Service Guild is proud to announce their annual Spring Fundraiser. The AZORES BAND of ESCALON will perform at THE STATE THEATER, in Modesto on May 11, 2023.

The proceeds will benefit the Homemaker Program of Catholic Charities, which supports the elderly in Stanislaus County and enables them to stay independently in their homes.

For decades, the Portuguese people have come to California in search of opportunity for a better life, while also wanting to maintain their Portuguese culture and identity. As with all cultures,
music is the backbone of many traditions. In the 1980’s, John da Silveira and other Portuguese immigrants were able to accomplish their dream and established The Azorean Filarmonica in the
U.S. The band now includes over 70 musicians from the surrounding area. In 2013, they became the first Portuguese Filarmonica from California to perform at the Sanjoaninas Festa, near Lisbon
and are planning to return this summer for another competition. It will be a festive evening of lively music and lovely dancers! We are pleased to help them celebrate their 43rd anniversary!
