The fight to save San Pedro’s iconic Channel Street DIY skatepark Film by April Jones
Renegade skateboarders turn their frustration with the lack of government support into fuel for political action. The Channel Street Skatepark in San Pedro, CA flourished for over a decade until overpass construction led to a shutdown. Facing the fate of demolition, founders and advocates navigate their way through political minefields to obtain land and permits to save their skatepark, in an area of one of the busiest shipping ports on the planet.
April is an international recognized award-winning film director, artist, and impact journalist who takes risks, tackles important issues, and addresses the needs of underserved communities that are seldom seen in public media.
Her art and film industry background spans over 2 decades, including a 40+ short documentaries, 2 feature films, several large-scale murals, and multiple projects in development, underscoring her prolific output and contributions to the industry.
Additionally, she is a public speaker, nonprofit board member and director, awarded byt City of LA for her community impact work.
