Based on the book Shoeless Joe by W.P. Kinsella, Field of Dreams tells the story of Ray Kinsella is an Iowa farmer who hears a mysterious voice telling him to turn his cornfield into a baseball diamond. He does, but the voice’s directions don’t stop — even after the spirits of deceased ballplayers turn up to play.
Moderator is Dennis Snelling, a member of The Society for American Baseball Research and the Pacific Coast League Historical Society. He is a three-time finalist for the Casey Award for Best Baseball Book of the Year, including in 2017 for “Lefty O’Doul: Baseball’s Forgotten Ambassador” He reviews sports books for The New York Journal of Books, is a columnist for Minor Trips Digest, and formerly served as the Senior Writer for Helmar Baseball & Art Magazine. Dennis is currently a Chief Business Official for the Roseville City School District, and in 2018 completed his 45th year as Voice of the Downey Knights, serving as the football team’s Public Address Announcer.
