DESCRIPTION:Kurt Ribak (REE-bok\, like the shoes) describes his music as “Charles Mingus meets The Meters. They go to Duke Ellington’s house to jam\, and Cachao and Thelonious Monk sit in.” Kurt has three albums as the Kurt Ribak Trio and three more as Kurt Ribak. The albums feature his own compositions\, which are original yet accessible. \nKurt grew up singing and playing classical music. He began playing jazz while attending UC Berkeley. After a battle with tendinitis\, Kurt won scholarships to Berklee College of Music and graduated with top honors. \nKurt has shared the stage with circus performers\, preachers\, and fire-breathing strippers\, but never all three at once. He has performed in venues ranging from SFJAZZ and Yoshi’s to a club where someone surreptitiously stashed a loaded .45 in Kurt’s bass bag while he was playing. \nKurt’s band has sold out Yoshi’s and SFJAZZ. They have also performed at San Francisco Jazz Festival\, Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse\, San Jose Jazz Festival\, Nor-Cal Jazz Festival\, Fillmore Street Jazz Festival\, and Blue Note Napa.

DESCRIPTION:The most exciting and creative music being made today crosses stylistic boundaries and blends diverse traditions to create engaging new sounds.  Charged Particles features three of the country’s virtuosos doing just that in the acoustic and electric jazz arena.  Murray Low is a keyboard wizard with dazzling Latin-jazz technique and imaginative improvisational skills.  Aaron Germain is an inventive and sophisticated acoustic and electric bassist.  Along with fiery drummer Jon Krosnick\, these players are making some of the most electrifying jazz in the country today.

Opening Konfucious Eats was the realization of a long-held dream—to share his passion for Korean and Japanese food and show Modesto just how exceptional these cuisines can be. \nErnie is honored to continue showcasing Korean food to the people of Modesto. This special event features a full Korean dinner\, including traditional banchan (Korean side dishes)\, along with several standout dishes that were favorites at Konfucious Eats.
