In this film festival favorite, a brilliant and misunderstood writer struggles to pursue his ambitious goal of bringing together Metallica and Kabul Dreams, Afghanistan’s first rock band. Hamid (actor/musician Mohsen Namjoo) immigrates to the U.S. to pursue his writing career and the American Dream. Instead, he winds up working at a small radio station. When the station’s owners try to cash in on the only program Hamid produces that will deliver commercial success-- bringing together an on-air jam session with Kabul Dreams and their long-time idols, Metallica—a hilarious collision ensues between artistic integrity and crass commercialism.

Back from hunting, Louis XIV - magisterially interpreted by New Wave icon Jean-Pierre Léaud in a career-capping performance- feels pain in his leg. A serious fever erupts, which marks the beginning of the agony of the greatest King of France. Surrounded by a horde of doctors and his closest counselors who come in turns at his bedside sensing the impending power vacuum, the Sun King struggles to run the country from his bed.

In celebration of its 30th Anniversary, The State is screening the sparkling new restoration of Maurice, one of the finest films ever made by the iconic Merchant Ivory Productions. Maurice Hall (James Wilby) and Clive Durham (Hugh Grant) find themselves falling in love at Cambridge. In a time when homosexuality is punishable by imprisonment, the two must keep their feelings for one another a secret. After a friend is arrested and disgraced for "the unspeakable vice of the Greeks," Clive abandons his forbidden love and marries a woman. Maurice, however, struggles with his identity and self-confidence, seeking the help of a hypnotist to rid himself of his undeniable urges. But while staying with Clive and his wife, Maurice is seduced by the affectionate and yearning servant Alec Scudder (Rupert Graves), an event that brings about profound changes in Maurice's life and outlook.
