Momentarily selected for Best Picture at the 2017 Academy Awards, La La Land is a joyous throwback to a bygone genre. Written and directed by Academy Award (R) nominee Damien Chazelle, La La Land tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams. La La Land boasts thrillingly assured direction, powerful performances, and an irresistible excess of heart.

Haven Women's Center of Stanislaus presents
Breaking The Silence

Haven Women's Center of Stanislaus is presenting an original film about male and LGBTQ survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse.  The screening, to which the public is invited to attend at no charge, will be followed by a panel discussion including Michael Glauner with PACE, Stanislaus County Office of Education; Mike Lopez with Hutton House; Joshua Palmer of Haven Women's Center; and Marc Castellanos of HARRT, Healthy and Responsible Relationships Troup.  This documentary-style film features people telling their stories about having been victims of domestic violence, childhood sexual assault, and child abuse.  All of the stories in the film are true, but some are portrayed by actors. The film is sponsored by a grant from VOCA and by Haven Women's Center. It is being filmed and edited by MyTV26.

Doors and live music by OTOS (On The Other Side) at 6:30; film at 7 p.m.
