The State Theatre is home to resident dance company STRUT Studio of Dance where students are immersed in dance and their passion for the art is cultivated by owners Hollie Bettencourt and Heather Bettencourt. STRUT's skilled staff promotes growth and a well-rounded dance experience by offering pre-dance, ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop and Pilates, to name just a few of the dance forms students learn, in a lively, but nurturing and positive environment. STRUT goes beyond the dance offered by most institutions by inspiring their students to not only further their dance experience, but become involved in their community. STRUT also prepares students for auditions for collegiate dance programs and stage productions. The State is proud to host STRUT's semi-annual performances, and recognizes the creativity, innovation and passion STRUT brings to dance, and applaud the healthy lifestyles Hollie and Heather foster in their students. For more information about STRUT's class schedules go to For information on future performances (every December and June) call The State Theater Box Office at 209-527-4697 or visit The State's Calendar of Events.

Building Imagination Center

The State Theatre is home to the Modesto branch of the Building Imagination Initiative. Dedicated to creative applications of digital technologies and targeted service learning opportunities within Modesto, CA and the greater Central Valley, the Building Imagination Initiative is a highly innovative research program which focuses upon the quality of life in the Central Valley and the re-imagining of its future as a metaphorical bridge for social struggles endemic to humanity itself.

Through a vital social community, the Building Imagination Initiative fosters technological competencies and sparks critical discourse between artists, writers, scientists, and social outreach groups on issues related to creative applications of new forms of digital art.

The State is proud to host the Building Imagination Initiative's semi-annual screenings and filmmaker discussions, and supports their dedication to experimentation, research and creative production involving technology, art, and service learning. For more information about the Building Imagination Initiative's ongoing Central Valley projects, visit For information on screenings (December and May) call The State Theatre Box Office at 209-527-4697 or visit The State's Calendar of Events.
